This piece symbolizes the abuse of science, primarily in the areas of radiation and chemotherapy.
Linus Pauling was a well known scientist very opposed to the use of chemotherapy and radiation in the medical industry. He is one of only four people to win a Nobel prize twice and the only person to win it by himself both times.

The gas mask represents the origin of chemotherapy. Mustard gas.

I chose to link the peace symbol with the ribbon for a number of reasons. The ribbon represents many things in our culture: cancer, support of troops, POW veterans, etc. The peace symbol claims its in flag semaphore symbols the letters "N" and "D" or nuclear disarmament. By linking the two together (specifically the cancer ribbon), the message is to "disarm" our nuclear cancer industry.

Other symbolism includes the radiation warning symbol, the years he won the Nobel in the upper left hand corner, and the text in the background is written on the actual Nobel medals.
